HEALTH & WELLNESS AUSTIN
Health & Wellness
The Health & Wellness program offers yoga classes for students of all ages and abilities who are dealing with injuries, stress, high blood pressure and/or recovery from surgery. These classes are designed to help students develop a safer yoga practice, find more mental clarity, calm anxiety and enhance general body awareness. The Health & Wellness program is designed to help students regain muscle strength and learn meditation techniques.
Restorative yoga uses props and blankets to modify traditional yoga poses. The supportive postures gently open the body to deep relaxation and healing. These classes are ideal for those going through stressful times, suffering from illness, injury or major life changes. Postures are held for extended times with the support of props.
These classes may combine gentle movement, restorative and/or yin yoga postures, yogic breathing techniques and deep relaxation (yoga nidra) to create more ease in the body and mind. These slower practices and techniques have been proven to lower blood pressure, improve sleep, re-educate the nervous system and reduce symptoms of stress in the body and mind. Safe and recommended for everyone.
Individuals with disabilities, weight challenges, inflexibility, or who just cannot get on the floor for whatever reason (such as age or being in a crowded work environment) can benefit from chair yoga. The chair replaces the yoga mat and becomes an extension of your body allowing you to take advantage of yoga’s fitness and health benefits. Even if you are in a wheelchair, you can receive the many benefits of chair yoga and the integration of body, mind, and spirit.
Develop and improve core strength in a safe environment; Protect and strengthen lower back and learn to use your core. Students should expect to work hard on the abs. Much care is given to positioning and set-up so that the appropriate muscles are targeted while injury-prone areas are protected. Much of the class is conducted on the floor. Great for students wanting more energy, better posture, more stamina or improved sports performance.
