Foundations of Breath Centered Yoga with Leslie Kaminoff

Friday, October 18 - Sunday, October 20
with Leslie Kaminoff at Westgate

BREATH AND ALIGNMENT: HONORING THE INDIVIDUAL
A Hands-Free Vinyasa Practice – The Warrior Series
Friday, October 18
11:00am - 2:00pm
This practice-heavy workshop will lead you through a specially designed vinyasa that strongly works the legs and moves the spine in all possible directions, all without putting any body weight on your hands. The main focus of this session will be the relationship of breath to movement, emphasizing the basic movement principles of the sequence. The use of breath cueing to achieve alignment and safety objectives will also be introduced.

Alignment in Asana and Vinyasa – Adaptation and Modification
Friday, October 18
3:00 - 6:00pm
Building on the basics covered in the morning session, the afternoon workshop will cover the full sequence of poses in the Warrior Series with an emphasis on the details of alignment. In particular, we will experiment with how to individualize breath and asana cueing for groups of any size, as well as how to modify the practice for individual therapeutic objectives. The vinyasa will be broken down into its components and applied to the myriad possibilities for individual adaptation and modification.

Friday Special Intensive: $150 ($170 after August 18, 2019)

FOUNDATIONS OF BREATH-CENTERED YOGA
Anatomy of Yoga: Body, Mind and Breath
Friday, October 18
7:00 - 9:00pm
Yoga can be described as integration of body, mind and breath. Leslie’s teacher, T.K.V. Desikachar, stated that without the breath there is no yoga. Join Leslie Kaminoff, co-author of Yoga Anatomy, for a two hour introduction to the basics of the anatomy, physiology and neurology of yoga practice. Lecture, audio-visual material, led practice and interactive inquiry; this can be taken as a standalone session or as part of the weekend workshop. All levels of experience (including beginners) are welcome.

Friday Evening: $25 ($40 after August 18, 2019)

Breath-Centered Yoga Theory and Practice
Part One: Asana, Vinyasa
Saturday, October 19
11:00am - 2:00pm
In this highly interactive, experiential session, Leslie will introduce the distinctive breath-centered teachings of Krishnamacharya and Desikachar from a historical, scholarly and anatomical perspective while leading participants into a progressively deeper understanding of the vital forces at work in the human breathing mechanism during yoga practice.
The practice will highlight the details of breath sequencing and how to coordinate movement and spinal action.

Breath-Centered Yoga Theory and Practice
Part Two: Bandha, Drishti
Saturday, October 19
3:30 - 6:30pm
The popularity of vinyasa-based yoga practice has created a wide interest in the theory and practice of Bandhas – the “yogic locks” and Drishti – “gazing.” In this session, Leslie applies his unique, experiential approach to clarify and, above all, simplify the practical, anatomical basis of these powerful, yet widely misunderstood tools. Ample time will be devoted to demonstrating adaptations of these practices for individual and therapeutic needs.

Saturday Full-Day Training: $150 ($170 after August 19, 2019)

The Yoga of the Foot – Walking Anatomy, Gait Analysis and Re-Patterning
Sunday, October 20
11:00am - 2:00pm
These are the lessons in being a biped that we all should all have had when we were young. It’s never too late to transform your relationship to the surface of our planet by restoring deep support for the arches of your feet, which are literally the foundation of a yoga practice. Leslie will cover essentials of foot anatomy, weight transfer and gait analysis to help transform your asana and walking from the ground up.

The Sage’s Seat: The Physiological Basis of Pranayama, Meditation and Yoga Philosophy
Sunday, October 20
3:30 - 6:30pm
This workshop will explore and illuminate the embodied basis of yogic philosophy and meditation experiences by demonstrating the connection between Patanjali’s eight-limbed path and the biological life sciences. For example, when our relationship to gravity is at its maximum efficiency, and our metabolic requirements are at their minimum, our body’s inherent structural equilibrium emerges as a deep sense of support and energy, which gives rise to concepts like shushumna, chakras and kundalini. Be prepared for an eclectic, free-ranging inquiry into topics ranging from the anatomical roots of pranic theory to the neurological basis of volitional consciousness, karma and free will.

Saturday Full-Day Training: $150 ($170 after August 19, 2019)

FULL TRAINING (All day Friday, Friday Day & Evening Session, full-day Saturday and Sunday Sessions): $445 ($495 after August 18, 2019)

WEEKEND TRAINING

(Friday Evening only, full-day Saturday and Sunday Sessions)

: $295 ($345 after August 18, 2019)
