Therapeutic Yoga for the Pelvic Floor: Heal From The Inside Out with DeLora Frederickson

February 1 - 3
with DeLora Frederickson at North

This special weekend event and training with DeLora Frederickson, Yoga Therapist, Doula, and pelvic floor specialist, is open to both men and women.  In this supportive environment, DeLora will demystify the terminology and anatomy around the pelvic floor, while offering practical information and experiential tools for you to create a deeper connection within yourself.

Over the weekend, we’ll explore the concepts of “strengthening” the pelvic floor and when we need to strengthen vs. relax these muscles (and how!).  Incontinence, pain, low back dysfunction, constipation, pressure, and pain during intercourse are all symptoms that can often be relieved with specialized yoga practices.

If you are a teacher, as you get to know yourself, you’ll also be learning valuable information on how you can work with students.

The weekend will include:

  • Anatomy of the Pelvic Floor
  • Common Dysfunctions if the Pelvic Floor
  • Demystifying Mula Bandha
  • How the pelvic floor informs your movement and yoga practices
  • Asana practice
  • Sound healing
  • Guided Visualization
  • Focused Breathing Awareness

Friday,  February 1
6:00 - 9:00pm
Understanding the Basics

In this introductory session, we will cover the basics - specifically, what we mean when we talk about the pelvic floor. We will begin to explore the connection between the pelvic floor and your yoga practice.
It is important to understand the physical as well as the more hidden reasons a healthy pelvic floor is integral to your well being.
Come prepared for inquiry through lecture, discussion, and physical practice.

Cost $45 ($55 after December 1)

Saturday, February 2
10:00am - 1:00pm
Seeing the Pelvic Floor from Different Perspectives

In the morning session, we will examine the pelvic floor from both western and eastern traditions. We’ll explore the anatomy and physiology of the pelvic floor in an easy to understand, accessible way, as well as introduce the yogic energetic models of the chakras.
We will cover topics such as learning to distinguish between hypo (lax) and hyper (tight) active pelvic floors. This clarified anatomical understanding of the pelvic floor combined with the eastern energetic anatomy models will offer us even deeper layers of inquiry.

Cost $45  ($55 after December 1)

Saturday, February 2
2:00 - 5:00pm
The Breath

Your nervous system is the headquarters for your entire body, so when your nervous system is out of balance so is your pelvic floor.  This imbalance can lead to many emotional and physical challenges. By learning to tune in to your sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems you can begin to recognize the subtle cues from your deeper self, and develop tools to regulate your internal systems.
In this afternoon session we will look at common pelvic floor problems like incontinence (urinary and fecal), low back pain, and prolapse; discovering how asana and pranayama practice can support your healing.

Cost $45  ($55 after December 1)

Sunday, February 3
10:00am - 1:00pm
Pelvic Floor Dysfunctions

This special session will focus on working with students one-on-one who experience pelvic floor problems. First we will look at asanas and how pelvic floor laxity or tension can affect alignment, preventing students from the full benefits of their practice. We will also delve deeper into how trauma lives in the pelvic floor, wellness practices for the pelvic floor, and sequencing for the pelvic floor. You will then practice using and teaching these techniques.

Cost $45  ($55 after December 1)

Sunday, February 3
2:00 - 5:00pm
How Anxiety Affects the Pelvic Floor

The afternoon session will continue to focus on the nervous system, how trauma can be “stored” in the pelvic floor, and the very real epidemic of chronic stress and anxiety. Anxiety affects 40 million people in the US alone.
Some symptoms that can accompany anxiety often include digestive problems, breathing restrictions, lack of intimacy, and the inability to have pleasure and happiness in your life.
You will hear about and practice proven techniques to release anxiety and to relax and tone the pelvic floor. Using these techniques you will build an anxiety busting tool kit to take with you wherever you go.

Cost $45  ($55 after December 1)

FULL PROGRAM:  $195 ($245 after December 1)
