Kewal, pronounced Kay-vel, moved to Austin from Harlingen, Texas in 1995. He began practicing yoga in 2001 with Sharon Moon at Yoga Yoga and began teaching here in 2002. He has over 1000 hours of training and over 10000 classroom hours teaching yoga. Kewal is 200 hour trained in multiple styles of yoga like Kundalini, Ashtanga and Yoga Therapy. Along with his 200 hour trainings, he has completed Anodea Judith’s Chakra Yoga Teacher training, Judith Lasater’s Relax and Renew Restorative yoga teacher training and he is also a Level 2 Reiki practitioner and massage therapist.
Kewal’s Vinyasa and Flow classes are fun and lighthearted with a modern soundtrack. His Ashtanga classes are an exploration of the Ashtanga system with an emphasis on developing a personalized approach to this amazing tradition. Kewal’s Hatha classes focus on alignment while exploring the energetics behind the physical practice of yoga. Kewal also teaches Gentle yoga which is a slow moving practice with a therapeutic focus on decreasing chronic pain, creating flexibility and building strength. Kewal begins all of his classes with a group check-in which allows him to take requests and to create an environment that serves the group’s needs.
