Rest and Renew, iRest® Yoga Nidra Series
Every once and awhile. Take off your life. And rest.
This class series will be a space to slow down, restore and renew. Over four weeks, we will explore the transformative practice of iRest® yoga nidra. This practice is grounded in the simplicity of Being, and feeling and sensing into the moment, exactly as it is. When we are not trying to fix, change or manage life, Rest naturally happens. We may experience a depth of ease, wholeness and clarity, no matter the circumstance. Often during or after practice, fresh and creative perspectives can arise in relation to life situations.
Class time will be mostly experiential, and will include a centering, brief orientation, a 35/40 minute iRest® yoga nidra practice, and time to reflect and connect as we close and step back into life. You will receive the audio recording of the guided practice from each class.
**iRest® yoga nidra is a healing and trauma sensitive practice of guided meditation. It is profoundly regulating to the nervous system, and can help to alleviate symptoms of stress, depression, anxiety, PTSD, chronic pain and insomnia. Deep rest can happen during practice, and you may also experience an in between state where you are both at rest and softly awake to the moment. For more information, visit www.irest.us
about your teacher
Born and brought up in New Jersey, Sheila has called Texas home since 1999. She completed an undergraduate and master’s degree in engineering and worked as an engineer until finally deciding to pursue her interest in yoga and particularly meditation. Both practices have supported her in countless ways, slowly paving a journey toward acceptance, understanding and a curiosity for life’s unfolding. It has gifted Sheila a way to return home to a deeper sense of meaning, purpose and often mystery. In addition to being inspired by many of the wonderful teachers and mentors here in Austin, TX, Sheila has completed David Swenson’s Ashtanga teacher training, Sarah Power’s Yin Yoga and Mindfulness Meditation teacher training and Richard Miller’s Level 1 and 2 iRest Yoga Nidra training. She is further deepening my studies in iRest Yoga Nidra with a two year certification study and mentorship.
Sheila weaves together the teachings of yogic and non-dual philosophy, meditation and deep relaxation in classes and view practice as a transformative tool that can uncover the practitioner’s inner wisdom, wholeness and underlying ease of being. She encourages compassionate self-exploration, as well as inquiry into the greater interconnectedness with the community and world around us. Her own practice takes root both on the cushion and especially off, with the demands and joys of daily life and family.
