This energizing workshop will provide the tools to go deeper into more advanced backbends by incorporating principles of alignment, breath, and awareness. We will bring specific focus to shoulder alignment and the freedom of the lower back. A thorough series of postures will bring vitality to the spine, create space for the abdominal organs, and encourage more efficient breathing. Experience in Hatha Yoga is required for this intermediate asana workshop.

Exploring the Depths of Headstand with

In this workshop, we will explore the use of core muscles as an integrated whole in headstand. Often times we find ourselves kicking up into the posture without taking the time to build the integrity required to perform the more difficult vinyasas and stay for longer periods of time (i.e. 15 minutes!) We will work through many postures and sequences that help to cultivate spinal integrity and flexibility, and then we'll work headstand and some of its vinyasas, including some of the advanced variations for those who are able. To attend the workshop, students should be able to perform a headstand with the support of the wall.

Planetary Practice: Yoga and the Stars with

The planets affect our lives profoundly yet most of us know little about their qualities and influences or how to manage them. In this workshop, we will use the Vedic astrology system of India to learn basic knowledge about the planets and the mantras and asanas associated with them. Then we will use this knowledge practically in a practice through the planets, using postures and mantra to learn how to honor and manage their influence. We will finish with a guided relaxation through the chakras as it relates to the planets. Some Hatha Yoga experience is recommended.
