Yoga Techniques covers the theory and practice of Kundalini Yoga asanas (postures) and kriyas (yoga sets), as well as the basics of Kundalini Yoga meditation, mudras, mantras and pranayamas. We will examine the major chakras (energetic centers) in the context of a yoga practice, with practical considerations given to the effects of various asanas, meditations, and yoga practices on specific chakras.

Philosophy and Lifestyle focuses on the history and tradition of Kundalini Yoga, as well as the underlying philosophy and concepts behind all the practices of all yoga. We will explore and practice the techniques of Kundalini Yoga as they apply to healing and humanology (the science of daily living), including diet and nutrition, gender roles, the yogic view of death, and how to live a yogic lifestyle.

Anatomy and Physiology creates an understanding of how the respiratory, nervous, immune, musculo-skeletal, circulatory, endocrine, and digestive systems function and their reaction and relation to the practice and teaching of yoga. In addition to traditional Western anatomy, you will learn about Yogic anatomy and the energy systems of the body, including the chakras, the nadis, the pranas and vayus, and Kundalini energy.

Teaching Methodology helps develop the skills and techniques to become an effective teacher of Kundalini Yoga with a focus on practical techniques for teaching beginners, ethical guidelines for teachers, curriculum development, and the role of the teacher in developing a successful yoga practice.

Teaching Practicum Classes allow you to teach in small groups with fellow students under the supervision of a Yoga Teacher Trainer. The teaching groups will give feedback to each other, and you’ll receive a evaluation about your teaching experience. In addition, you will be given the opportunity to practice teaching skills with your fellow students in study groups.

"If you want to learn something, read about it. If you want to understand something, write about it. If you want to master something, teach it."
– Yogi Bhajan

Weekend Retreats
Two weekend retreats (Friday afternoon through Sunday afternoon) are offered near the beginning and the end of the program. These retreats are held at the beautiful Margaret Austin Center near Brenham, Texas (an hour and forty-five minutes from Austin). The retreat center is in a peaceful country setting that has been the site of meditative and yogic gatherings for over 30 years. You’ll enjoy gourmet vegetarian meals prepared to yogic guidelines, early morning Sadhana (yoga) classes, in-depth learning opportunities, and the time to meet and become friends with your fellow students. The retreats are frequently the highlights of teacher training for many students and are a great way to accelerate your learning and growth. Carpooling will be available for those who want to share rides.

White Tantric Yoga
In this one-day course held in Austin every spring, we will practice Kundalini yoga meditations designed to clear the subconscious mind. We’ll come together with other Kundalini Yoga teachers and students from around the country to enjoy a deep and sometimes challenging meditative experience. The course lasts all day Saturday and lunch is provided.
