Frequently
Asked Questions
Why
should I enroll in Teacher Training with Yoga Yoga?
Yoga Yoga Teacher Training is a recognized, registered school with the
Yoga Alliance. Through our rich variety of classes in yoga instruction
you will expand the knowledge you gain in your own practice, explore
a broader field of yoga study, gain expertise and credentials to advance
your career as a yoga teacher, and further your personal, intellectual
and spiritual development. Our teacher training program requirements
meet or exceed Yoga Alliance’s national standards for yoga teacher education.
How
long will it take to complete a training program?
The Yoga Yoga Teacher Training Program is 8 months long. Students who
begin in the fall finish their training in the spring; students who
begin in the spring finish the program at the end of the summer. By
taking several months to complete the entire course of study, students
have time to fully assimilate the skills and knowledge they acquire
in the program. There is also the option of taking longer than 8 months
to finish the 200 Teacher Training program. Some students choose to
slow down the pace at which they schedule their courses, thus allowing
more time for other obligations. Students may take as long as they choose
to finish the program, but cannot complete the entire Teacher Training
Program in less than 8 months.
I’ve
seen some training programs lasting only 2 weeks. Why is this program
so much longer?
Yoga is a lifelong practice, and teaching yoga requires a commitment
of learning the skills, experiencing the practice, and serving our community.
The schedule of our program gives students time to integrate everything
it means to be a yoga teacher. There is no substitute for having the
time to put into practice what you are learning!
I
already teach yoga. What do you offer for continuing education?
Yoga Yoga offers advanced training through special events, workshops,
and intensives with national teachers. Teachers are also welcome to
register for individual modules and retreats to review and strengthen
their previous training.
Are
there other benefits to being in the teacher training programs?
In addition to participating in our growing student community, Teacher
Training Students receive discounts on class passes, books, CDs, and
clothes sold at all three Yoga Yoga locations.
I
noticed some classes are offered as weekend retreats. How do those work?
The weekend retreat gives YYTT students a chance to fully experience
a yogic lifestyle. On retreat, students enjoy meals prepared to yogic
guidelines, spend intensive time with fellow students and teachers in
a fun and relaxing environment, and work deeply in a setting where your
yoga studies are your only focus. The weekend retreats are a great way
to have an in-depth yoga experience, bond with your classmates and teachers,
and complete your coursework efficiently. Retreats typically start on
Friday afternoon, and finish Sunday evening.
I’m
not sure if I want to be a teacher or if I am a good enough student
to start a program like this. What do I need to do if I wanted to start?
Many students pursue teacher training not because they want to teach,
but because they love yoga and want to learn more. Teacher Training
is a wonderful way to deepen your practice and take it to a new level.
The first step in this process is having a yoga practice. Yoga is experiential
and we encourage students to practice regularly before, during, and
after their training. Your practice, combined with a love of yoga, is
really what you need to pursue 200 hours of training.
