Skye discovered yoga during college in Vermont. “The room was cold and we didn’t have mats,” Skye recalls. “It was a somewhat ascetic experience, actually, but after my first savasana, I knew I always wanted to feel that peaceful and integrated.”
After her first year of practice, Skye knew she wanted to share her experience. While living in her native New England, Skye studied Kripalu, Anusara and Vinyasa Flow for six years before heading to Austin and joining Yoga Yoga’s 200-hour Hatha Yoga Teacher Training program in 2007.
Students will find Skye teaching Hatha, Hatha Flow, Vinyasa and Prenatal classes on our schedule. With her eclectic background, Skye offers spirited, grounding classes focusing on classical alignment principles, breath and body awareness, presence of mind and self-love.
Becoming a mother changed Skye’s entire life and transformed her approach to yoga. When her son Alistair was born in 2010, yoga became a way to connect to her child and he, in turn, has inspired many of her classes. Practicing yoga gives her the tools to remain present, calm and grounded. Yoga offers the opportunity for constant growth and learning, so the relationship one has to yoga is always changing. “There is always the opportunity for growth, but it happens in your own time. You are on no one’s path but your own.”
Skye is currently completing her 500-hour teacher training certification with a focus on pre- and postnatal yoga. She is deeply grateful for her many influential teachers, including Kathleen Swinbourne, Emily Garrett, Matt Borer and Jenn Wooten, though she is also profoundly influenced by her fellow students. Students will find Skye not only teaching at our studios, but studying alongside them in public classes. “A community of yoga students is powerful enough to change the world, and I have been fortunate enough to practice next to people full of such love and curiosity and dedication.”
When she is not teaching or practicing, Skye is taking walks in the park with Alistair, eating Indian and Tex-Mex at the many great, family-friendly Austin spots, and listening to her vinyl record collection..
