Viniyoga
Structural Therapy
May 21 - 23
Over
100 billion dollars are spent annually in the United States on back pain.
In addition to being the most common job-related disability, back pain
is the second highest cause for visits to primary care doctors. Eight
out of ten people will experience back pain.
In
December 2005, the Annals of Internal Medicine reported that yoga is an
effective treatment for chronic back pain. These results were found in
a study conducted by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and the
yoga protocol in that study was designed by Gary Kraftsow using the gentle
approach of Viniyoga.
This
methodology will be used as the basis to learn and experience specific
therapeutic sequences for the lower back, sacrum and hips, as well as
the upper back, neck and shoulders, and is designed for therapists, teachers,
and individuals who suffer from any type of back, neck, or shoulder pain.

15 hour Special Program with Gary Kraftsow
Yoga:
A Holistic Science for the Multi-Dimensional Self
Monday, May 24 11:00am - 4:00pm
Western culture has encouraged a perspective of yoga as an effective
system of exercise and stress relief. This truth has obscured a larger
vision of yoga that can touch and transform us at every level. Gary
introduces, refines and personalizes the holistic art and science
of yoga practice. This understanding will empower practitioners of
every level to deepen the depth and breadth of their Yoga practice
as well as deepen their understanding of how yoga impacts us at every
level. Yoga is a powerful and practical science of personal self-transformation
at every level: the body, mind and heart.

The
Art of Meditation
Tuesday, May 25 11:00am - 4:00pm
Meditation is a means for developing subtle self-awareness, reducing
mental agitation, as well as directing and focusing attention. The
Yoga Sutras of Patanjali explores fundamental teachings around the
path and practice of meditation. Meditation is a popular topic in
the Yoga world, but often not directly related to the source texts
of Yoga. The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali offer us a deep vision into
the nature of the mind, obstacles on the path as well as very practical
tools and techniques for understanding the mind and subtle transformation
through the practice of meditation. This workshop focuses on understanding
the process and state of meditation as well as incorporating meditation
into both your asana practice and daily life.
Cost: $95 ($115 after April 15) Click

The
Science and Practical Applications of Mantra
Wednesday, May 26 11:00am - 4:00pm
Mantra enhances the effect of asana practice as well as pranayama
(breath work). It is a potent tools for transformation, both from
the perspective of the mind, our vital energy, self-understanding
and self-transformation. Gary explores both the energetic and cognitive
quality of mantras; through the use if simple sounds, as well as non-sectarian
mantras from ancients texts. This workshop focuses on the practical
application of incorporating sound into your asana and meditation
practice, to deepen their transformative effect.
