Yoga
Anatomy: Focus on the Joints
Friday, January 15, 12:00 - 4:00pm
Our bodies are complex, but a few anatomical principles,
properly understood, make clear why each student is unique, and why one
student may look and be able to perform an asana quite differently than
the next. Using the descriptive tools of modern kinesiology, learn to look
past the surface of the body and see the Yoga postures as movements of the
skeleton and joints. This
is a unique opportunity to learn from a national yoga anatomy expert. Students
and teachers alike will benefit in the areas of understanding their own
unique anatomy, injury prevention and refining their skills to work with
others.
Cost: $75 ($85 after December 1)

Introduction
and Led Practice
Friday, January 15, 6:30 - 8:30pm
In
this two hour introduction, learn the basic theory of Yin Yoga, and enjoy
a led practice with Paul and Suzee. A brief introduction to the subtle
anatomy of the Chakras will be given before a group meditation. Preferential
attendance will be given to participants enrolled in the full weekend
or the Saturday and Sunday Intensives.
Cost: $35 ($45 after December 1)

Yoga
Anatomy: Yin Yoga Theory and Practice
Saturday, January 16, 12:30 - 5:30pm
The
Yin Yoga practice is a practice of long held floor postures that emphasize
the connective tissues of the hips, thighs, pelvis and lower spine. The
Yin practice is a powerful complement to your more active yoga practice
and prepares the body and mind for seated meditation practices. By drawing
your awareness away from the muscles and deeper into the bones, a deep
level of relaxed focus is achieved. In this intensive, experience the
postures in your own body, learn about the skeletal system as it relates
to Yin yoga, the tissues of the body, and the deep physical and emotional
benefits of this quiet practice. This intensive is recommended for teachers
and all students who want to learn from one of the national experts in
Yoga Anatomy and Kinesiology!
Cost:
$95 ($115 after December 1)

Yoga
Anatomy: The Chakras
Sunday, January 17, 12:30 - 5:30pm
Prana (or chi) is the energy that animates the body, the Nadis (or meridians)
are the channels in which this energy flows, and the Chakras are the centers
that control the flow. The fundamental premise of Hatha Yoga, Tantra and
Taoism is that the Yogi needs to learn to control these energies to calm
the mind and reveal the Self. In this clinic, learn the basic anatomy
of these energy centers and their effect on the mind, breath and emotions.
Simple breath techniques (pranayama), meditations and mantra will be explored
as tools for working with this system.
Cost:
$95 ($115 after December 1)

Paul
Grilley
has been teaching yoga since 1980 with a special interest in anatomy
and kinesilogy. He is the author of Yin Yoga and has created
3 DVDs -- Yin Yoga, Anatomy for Yoga and Chakra Theory
and Meditation. He practices yoga postures in the style of Paulie
Zink and patterns his philosophy on the writings and research of Dr.
Hiroshi Motoyama, an accomplished Yogi and scientist from Tokyo, Japan.
This philosophy integrates the Taoist Meridian and Acupuncture theories
of China with the Yogic and Tantric theories of India. Paul's work
with Dr. Motoyama has earned him an honorary doctorate. |

Suzee
Grilley
has been a student of yoga since 1980 and has studied Ashtanga Yoga
(with Pattabhi Jois), Iyengar Yoga, Integral Yoga and Hatha Yoga with
Dharma Mittra. She is a former member of the Nikolais Dance Theater
and is currently a choreographer, performer and director of the DanceSpace
in Ashland, Oregon. The slow, healing style of Yin Yoga has prolonged
her career in dance and aided her practice of meditation. |
What
students said about last year's classes with Paul Grilley:
This
was an exceptionally useful weekend for me as a student. The information
was validating and helpful in explaining some of the struggles I have
in my practice. Also, the idea of why Yin yoga should be integrated
into my home practice was made evident. The practice itself was calming
and did leave me feeling light and happy. - Diana
Paul is a fabulous teacher. His humor & extensive knowledge kept
me totally engaged. I learned so much! Thank you YogaYoga for bringing
such a gifted teacher to Austin. - Linda
Really enjoyed the focus on anatomy that Paul Grilley has, but more
than that were the reminders to trust your experience and teach from
that, to be true to yourself. - Paul
Ive
re-experienced the yoga I fell in love with! This experience was life-affirming
for me and Im excited and inspired to take what Ive learned
to others. Thank you! - Erin
Paul Grilley is an excellent teacher and presenter....funny, very informative,
and to the point. Great class!
Not
only did I feel an immediate release of pain and tension that I have
had in my low back for 10 years (really, I am amazed at how my back
feels), but I feel totally empowered to listen to my own instincts and
create a practice that is right for me.
The weekend with Paul Grilley was excellent! I learned a lot of new
information on chakras and meridians, and gained knowledge on how to
improve the way I practice asana (more functional, less aesthetic).
- Sergio
This weekend was remarkably informative and enlightening. I believe
that the knowledge that I gained from this experience will benefit myself
and my students in many ways. - Kathy
It was so informative in a casual, funny, non-threatening way - Paul
is a born teacher, able to present info in an easy-to-understand and
use way - Mary
