Anusara Yoga Immersion

Part
1: Mastering the Fundamentals
In this first part of the Immersion, you will
establish a solid foundation in the fundamentals of Anusara Yoga by connecting
deeply with its life affirming philosophy and vision.
You
will learn the Universal Principles of Alignment used in Anusara Yoga,
including the 3 A's, the 5 Principles and Loops as well as an introduction
to the use of props.
We
will also explore the Foundation and Form of poses of the Level I Anusara
Syllabus and their general principles, as well as an introduction to basic
anatomy including the skeletal structure and the main muscles groups and
the anatomy of the breath.
In
addition to the asanas, there is also an emphasis on developing the yogic
tools of pranayama, meditation, journaling, and contemplation.
Along
with the practice, you will learn about the Philosophy of Anusara Yoga,
including the fundamentals of practice, ethical precepts, basics of studentship
and an overview of the history of yoga.

Part
2: Deepening the Practice
In
the second part of the Immersion, we will go deeper into the more subtle
aspects of the Universal Principles of Alignment, including: muscular
and organic energy, the focal points, spirals and the loops, as well as
an introduction to the therapeutic aspects of these principles.
At
this level, you will learn the art of asana sequencing as well as the
postures in the Level II syllabus, including a focus on the hips/legs
and shoulders/arms. There is also a focus on deepening the practice of
pranayama (Ujjayi, Viloma, Nadi Sodhana) and meditation.
Part
2 of the Immersion also takes you into the exploration of Kinesiology
and the subtle body anatomy, including prana, kundalini, chakras, nadis
and the five koshas.
Along
with the practice of asanas and the breath, our continued exploration
of philosophy includes the study of the 36 Tattvas, the 5 Elements, the
Yoga Sutras and their relationship to a student on the path of yoga.

Part
3: Expanding the Heart
In the final part of the Immersion, we begin
to integrate our knowledge into our practice with an even more in-depth
exploration of the subtle aspects of the Universal Principles of Alignment,
as well as exploring intermediate pranayama practices (Kapalabhati and
Sahita) and major meditation techniques (focus, open, and integrated).
There
is also a focus on the Kinesiology of main muscle groups as we continue
to explore the movement of asana.
Along
with refining and mastering the principles of asana, pranayama, and mediation,
we will explore the philosophy of the Bhagavad Gita and the integration
of the concepts pf Karma, Jnana and Bhakti Yoga into our practice.

Christina
Sell has been practicing yoga since 1991. She is a certified Anusara Yoga
instructor and author
of Yoga From the Inside Out. Christina directed Prescott Yoga in
Arizona until June 2006, when she and her husband relocated to San Marcos.
