February Student of the Month: Martha

Martha

1. Tell us about the first yoga class you remember. Did you like it?
After an injury, I took a gentle class with Don and my yoga journey started.

2. What do you like best about Yoga Yoga?
Yoga Yoga is a welcoming commuity of friendly and knowledgeable instructors. Students are able to feel comfortable with their level of ability and encouraged to develop further.

3. If you could have a Yoga Yoga anywhere, where would it be?
I'm fortunate to have 3 Yoga Yoga locations near me, but maybe one in East Austin or Lake Travis would make the people out there happy.

4. Who is your current favorite yoga teacher?
I practice with Jenny O., Everitt, Don, Sapphire, Sarah S., and Colleen. Each teacher is unique and I love them all.

5. Off the mat and in the world, where are you?
I am in the process of learning how to release behavior that causes tension and worry.  Through the practice of yoga I am developing habits that open my heart and help me act in a more loving way.  As a human, I am not perfect and need to forgive and love myself, letting go and trying again.  I have a wonderful daughter, son and daughter in law, along with two amazing grandsons who bring me much love and happiness.

6. What’s your sign?
I was born in June and my sign is Cancer.

7. Who is your favorite Austin character?
Willie Nelson.

8. What’s the first concert you attended?
I don't remember my first concert but the Lionel Richie concert at the Kodak Theater was fun!

Sweet Potato and Pumpkin Soup

  • 3 large sweet potatoes
  • 1 can pumpkin
  • 1 can butternut squash
  • 1 can coconut milk
  • 1 box veggie broth
  • Curry, pumpkin pie spice, and salt to taste

Peel, dice and boil sweet potatoes in enough veggie broth to cover. Once soft (approx. 20 mins.) let cool and puree in blender.  Return to pot.  Puree canned pumpkin and squash.  Add to potatoes in pot along with the can of coconut milk and more broth if needed. Add spices to taste and cook on low heat for 15 minutes. This will make about 8 servings of soup and it freezes well. Enjoy!
