Take it to a Deeper Level!
Take it to
a Deeper Level!
You have experienced the life-changing effects of Kundalini Yoga. You’ve been attending classes, you know it is good stuff, and you want more! Now what? Whether you are an enthusiastic newcomer or a seasoned student of Kundalini Yoga, the following suggestions can help you progress and profoundly deepen your experience.

1.Take the 40-Day Challenge!
Yogic science teaches that it takes 40 days to fully change a habit. A 40-day commitment to change can provide the shift needed to develop a life-promoting habit or to drop a destructive habit. A first step in experiencing the challenge and the glorious satisfaction of lasting change is to commit to 40 consecutive days of yogic practice.

There are many approaches to a 40-day practice. Some students start by attending yoga classes 40 days in a row. This is a great way to strengthen the body and commit to a set length of practice time every day. It can also be a helpful step in developing an on-going Sadhana (daily practice) habit – especially if you have trouble setting practice time at home. This gives you variety in what you are practicing but also provides a stable routine for doing yoga every day.

Another approach is to do a particular meditation every day for 40 days. If you need advice for selecting a meditation, your teacher can provide suggestions. If there is something specific you want to work on bringing into your life or something you want to let go of, practice a meditation for that issue. There are mediations that work on just about everything! For the most profound results, it should be a meditation that is at least 11 minutes long. This practice is a discipline and requires that you make time at home every day to do it.

A 40-day practice is demanding. It is hard. And you can do it. The 40-day practice creates the experience of discipline, of commitment to personal growth, and helps you make the changes that you desire in your life. There will be days when you don’t want to keep going. But as Yogi Bhajan, the Master Teacher of Kundalini Yoga, always says, "Keep up and you will be kept up!" Keep going and, at the end, you will have truly accomplished something. Many students find it helpful to keep a journal during the 40 days.

2. Start Sadhana (daily practice)
Sadhana is a daily personal practice. In the Kundalini Yoga tradition, it is suggested that a personal practice be done early in the morning, ideally before sunrise! This time is the optimal time for spiritual practice and it prepares you for the day ahead. However, a Sadhana practice can be done at any time. Sadhana can be a few minutes of meditation when you wake in the morning, it can be a yoga class you attend, or it can be any spiritual practice. It is a practice of connecting to your spirit in a focused and conscious way. A good way to get into the Sadhana habit is to start with a 40-day practice (mentioned above.)

3. Attend Advanced Classes and Courses
Our on-going yoga class schedule offers several Advanced level Kundalini Yoga classes each week. Advanced classes give more strenuous yoga sets, more advanced postures, and longer meditations. These classes are great for students who like a challenge, less basic instruction, and who enjoy the energy of a focused, more experienced class. In addition, weekend workshops that cover a variety of special topics are offered on a regular basis. Students with unlimited class passes may attend workshops for free. Pre-registration is recommended. Visit our Workshop Page for a listing of upcoming workshop topics.

4. Teacher Training – It’s not just for Teachers!
The best way to gain an in-depth understanding of Kundalini Yoga is to participate in courses offered through Yoga Yoga Teacher Training. These courses are for serious students of Kundalini Yoga who want to take their practice and learning to a deeper level. Teacher Training courses provide transformational and educational experiences whether you want to be a yoga teacher or not. These courses cover all the basics of Kundalini Yoga as well as exploring topics such as lifestyle, philosophy, spiritual development, and humanology. Ask your teacher or any Yoga Yoga staff member for more information or look at our Kundalini Yoga Teacher Training page to learn about upcoming courses.

5. Get involved in Kundalini Yoga Community Events
A great way to get to know teachers and students of Kundalini Yoga is to attend Kundalini Community Events. Keep an eye on our Kundalini Yoga Current Events page for upcoming community events, social gatherings, and special workshops.

6. White Tantric Yoga – A Profound Experience in Meditation
White Tantric Yoga is a unique meditative practice that is done only in specific courses and is an amazing experience of cleansing the subconscious mind and creating personal change. White Tantric Yoga courses are held all over the world on a regular basis and each year, a White Tantric Yoga course is held in Austin. This year a course will be held in Austin on April 16, 2005. Participation in the course is highly recommended for serious Kundalini Yoga students. It is a special opportunity for a very deep meditation experience that can facilitate profound personal growth. For more information, visit www.whitetantricyoga.com or ask your teacher.

7. World-wide Events and Training
Numerous Kundalini Yoga events are held around the world, including yoga festivals, training courses, women’s camps, and other events. Each year, many teachers and students from Austin travel to New Mexico for some of these events. One event in particular, Summer Solstice, is held in New Mexico every June and is attended by many Austin teachers and students. Summer Solstice is a weeklong yoga event involving camping in the beautiful Jemez Mountains, yoga classes, and three days of White Tantric Yoga (see above.) It is an amazing, transformational experience. As the summer nears, Yoga Yoga helps to facilitate carpooling for travel to Summer Solstice. Visit www.3HO.org for a listing of upcoming Kundalini events or ask your teacher for more information. Summer Solstice is the ultimate experience for the advancing Kundalini student – and it well worth planning to attend!
