Class will meet on Thursdays from February 2 - March 8, from 5:30 - 8:30 pm.

Mudras are the psychophysiological postures, hand positions and gazes that rebalance the pranic structure of the body. They are among the most powerful and least understood practices of Hatha and Kundalini Yoga and are used therapeutically for healing as well as to awaken the transformational energy in the body.

In this training you will explore and understand the four major categories of mudras:
1)   Kaya, or the postural mudras which use asanas with breathing and concentration;
2)   Mana, or the head mudras which use the eyes or dristis (gazes);
3)   Hasta, or the hand mudras which use the fingers to awaken the brain and heal the body;
4)   Bandha, or the muscular lock mudras which charge the body with prana and awaken the kundalini energy.

Particular emphasis will be placed on the use of the hand mudras for healing and meditation, from both an Ayurvedic and Yogic perspective. In addition, we will look at the 25 major mudras described in the ancient texts, as well as investigate the scientific basis for the use of mudras therapeutically. Students will also select and develop a mudra for their own personal practice.

Mudras are readily accessible, easily taught, and can produce deep healing results as well as an alteration of consciousness.  This course is an entertaining and empowering encounter to the higher and subtle practices of yoga.
