Kendra

For Kendra, yoga is an ongoing way to help her live her best life. Originally from Walla Walla, Washington, Kendra lived in Tucson, Arizona, before making Austin her home in 2002. While it was in Arizona where she discovered yoga at the age of 20, Kendra acknowledges Austin as her biggest yoga influence because of the strong, thriving, active, supportive yoga community here.

In search of a different workout outside of a gym, Kendra actually took her first yoga class when she was 17, but it took a few years between classes for her to appreciate how much it slowed her mind and made her body feel relaxed and open. “I love the way I feel after a practice—balanced, open, centered, and peaceful.”

After graduating from Yoga Yoga's Hatha Yoga Teacher Training program in 2003, Kendra completed Leslie Lytle’s Prenatal and Postnatal Yoga Teacher Training 2006. Her prenatal classes at Yoga Yoga are taught in a semi-flowing style, returning to tadasana (mountain pose) between standing postures and taking time to connect with the breath. Kendra strives to tailor her classes to students’ mind and body needs, addressing any issues that come up during “circle” at the beginning of class. She tries to make each class personal, connective, and light when it needs to be. “Yoga is accessible to everyone at any time; I love how yoga connects you to yourself and to others.”

When not teaching Prenatal Yoga, Kendra can be found at Lady Bird Lake or in her garden with her two children.

Kendra recommends:
Bolsters — “You can do so much with them.”
Eye pillows — “Who doesn’t need a lavender eye bag?”
