 Fanny
Fanny, a native French speaker, grew up near Montreal, Quebec, in Canada. She spent seven years in British Columbia before moving to Texas for love, the only reason she would have ever considered such a move. For her, yoga is an ongoing, all-day-everyday process of connection, awareness and transformation.
As soon as she began to practice yoga, first in the Iyengar and Anusara lineages, Fanny knew she would become a teacher someday. “The Iyengar studio where I started to practice was just behind a big cathedral. I attended class on Sunday mornings, and I remember that as we chanted the invocation at the start of class, we could hear the cathedral bells ringing. I remember feeling as though I, too, was entering a sacred space: that of my body.” Because yoga enabled her to use her body as a vessel for spiritual practice she kept coming back for more. Shortly after landing in Texas she enrolled in Yoga Yoga Teacher Training in the fall of 2007.
Fanny’s teaching style is primarily informed and inspired by the Viniyoga style of yoga and largely influenced by her favorite Yoga Yoga teachers: Angela D., Lori, and by her mentor Ana Pilar. “In teacher training I was exposed to the Viniyoga style as taught by Gary Kraftsow and found that it was much more appropriate for my body. I learned to use my breath to initiate movement, and to incorporate pranayama, chanting and meditation into my practice.” Her classes are heart-centered, flowing and meditative, and in them she invites students to find and connect to their breath and to use their breath as a way to fully inhabit their bodies and stay rooted in the present moment.
After graduating from the Yoga Yoga Teacher Training program in the spring of 2008, Fanny completed the Leslie Lytle Prenatal Yoga Teacher Training course in the fall before working toward her 500-hour teaching certification through Yoga Yoga’s Advanced Studies.
She loves classical yoga texts such as the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali and the Bhagavad Gita, and often weaves those teachings into her classes. She is currently studying to deepen her knowledge and understanding of anatomy and kinesiology, as well as exploring Yin Yoga and Yoga Nidra (Deep Relaxation).
Fanny’s artistic pursuits include knitting, sewing, photography and writing. She is an avid reader and a passionate cook, and loves the home life she shares in San Marcos with her husband, dog and two cats.
You will find Fanny teaching Hatha, Restorative and Prenatal classes at the South, Westgate and 360 locations.
