 Angela D
Angela’s first yoga experience was in the 70's with her mother, Carol Strickler, who has been teaching for more than thirty years. She remembers really liking the “nap” at the end and, in fact, believes the world would be a better place if we could all take a collective nap.
Originally from Palmyra, Pa., Angela has lived in Austin and been a loved and respected part of Yoga Yoga for ten years. She is an open and easygoing teacher, and her classes include more emphasis on undoing tension from the body, restoring the natural ease of the breath, and cultivating self-acceptance rather than creating perfect poses. She teaches a non-competitive class open to all levels with a solid grounding in proper alignment, a deeper understanding of the inner geography of the body, and the importance of core strengthening, supplemented by the occasional bad joke. She can also find hundreds of ways to use a yoga blanket.
While Angela considers her mother her first teacher, she returned to the practice of yoga after many years of waiting tables which caused her to develop some lower back and foot pain. Though yoga initially eased her physical pain, she continued to practice for love of the philosophy and art form.
Angela is inspired by such great teachers as Donna Farhi, with whom she has completed a teacher training, Julie Stryker at Westlake Pilates here in Austin, Judith Hanson Lasater, and Angela Farmer. She is always motivated by her students’ openness and curiosity, as well as her own love of learning about anatomy, movement, and the energy body. She is currently completing her pilates certification from Body Arts and Science International.
“Yoga is a practice that can affect every aspect of a person’s wellbeing physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual. It can be practiced by anyone, anywhere. It is a great tool for present-moment awareness and it keeps the joints juicy.”
