 Alice Duffy
Alice Duffy was born in a cabin in the woods deep in the heart of Texas, and after years of exploring the country, she gave birth to her daughter in the very same cabin. Creating community and making a difference in birthing parent’s lives are important to Alice, and are as much a part of her teaching as creating a balanced series of postures.
Alice’s first impression of yoga came at age 12 when she took a class with a friend’s mother. At age 20, she had an impression that practicing yoga might help her feel a greater connection to herself and the world around her. As she integrated yoga into her life, Alice found herself feeling stronger physically and emotionally. She was a nicer person, and realized that this physical practice with its meditative foundation made her life more enjoyable.
Alice’s serious study of yoga began when she entered Yoga Yoga Teacher Training in 2002 and became a registered yoga teacher a year later. She has training in Kundalini, Hatha, and Prenatal yoga, and recently completed an immersion program and teacher training in her latest passion, Anusara Yoga™. Having taught Hatha yoga for years, Alice took an Anusara Yoga™ class one day and was amazed. This tradition has deeply affected her personal practice and her teaching. Using the universal principles of alignment and heart centered awareness; she consistently takes her practice to a higher level and helps her students do the same.
Alice’s yoga education has brought together ancient traditions and contemporary innovations, and feeds her continuing fascination with life in all its different phases. The variety of yoga traditions she studied gives Alice a breadth of skills and experiences to draw from when designing her classes. Alice is committed to using Anusara Yoga’s™ universal principles of alignment to safely encourage her students into more challenging postures. Alice promises to deliver a challenging class for practitioners of all levels.
Alice’s prenatal classes prepare each student for labor, birth, and parenthood and she is quick to recommend resources to her students. “Birthing from Within” by Pamela England, is one of her favorite books because it speaks to the current generation of parents-to-be. Alice also works as a doula, assisting laboring women and their partners through the birthing experience. She created and teaches a special event, Prenatal for Partners, which supports women and their partners in preparing for labor and birth.
Alice loves the Barton Creek Greenbelt, Mexican food, gardening, and spending time with her husband, Steve, and daughter, Fiona.
Alice teaches Prenatal and Hatha yoga classes at Yoga Yoga.
