Yoga for Vitality and Self Care with Mirka Kraftsow

Join master yoga teacher Mirka Kraftsow to experience yoga for enhanced resilience, reduced aches and pains, and increased vitality!
In this special weekend intensive, Mirka will use her decades of teaching and yoga therapy experience to bring you a weekend focused on tools and techniques you can incorporate into your life and your yoga practice.

Go beyond the basics of Viniyoga to learn self-care of the physical body as well as the mind, emotions, and heart using the awareness tools of the yoga tradition: breath and movement, asana adaptations, meditation, visualization, guided relaxation, breathing techniques and simple healing sound.

Intro to Viniyoga

In this Friday evening session Mirka will introduce Viniyoga and its practical application of yoga therapy for self-care. Learn how specific tools and techniques rooted in the yoga tradition can lead to a decrease in common aches and pains, calming and centering of the nervous system, and improvement in mood and overall sense of well-being.

Cost $45 ($55 after July 28)

Yoga Therapy Structural Self Care

Viniyoga methodology will be used as the basis to learn and experience specific therapeutic sequences for the lower back, sacrum and hips, as well as the upper back, neck and shoulders. Viniyoga tools and techniques have extensive benefits for therapists, teachers, and individuals who suffer from any type of back, neck, or shoulder pain.

During the Saturday session, you will learn functional movement for common aches and pains such as lower back pain and knee pain, supportive breathing techniques to strengthen the body and reduce stress, and specific meditation techniques to clear mental clutter and enhance wellbeing.

This session will focus on relieving aches and pain in the lower body (back, sacrum, hips, knees and feet) and in the upper body (back, neck shoulders, wrists and hands).

Your day with Mirka includes 5 hours of classroom time and a one hour break.

Yoga Therapy for the Heart and Mind

Go beyond Viniyoga structural work to the heart of Yoga practice. In this second day with Mirka, expand your understanding of Yoga to learn how to access and care for the inner self. Learn how yoga can help you experience more joy and less worry with specific breathing and visualization techniques. Learn to trust your inner wisdom and develop personal rituals for self care and connection to your highest self.

This session will teach you how to enhance core strength and resilience for the respiratory, digestive, and immune systems. It will incorporate meditation, guided relaxation, and simple healing sounds to calm and center the nervous system, and revitalize the entire body.

Your day with Mirka includes 5 hours of classroom time and a one hour break.

Cost:$125 ($145 after July 28)

About MIRKA KRAFTSOW

Mirka Scalco Kraftsow, E-RYT-500, was born and raised in Italy, and has been a health practitioner and educator since 1974. She traveled and studied different modalities of dance, movement, psychology, and meditation in India, Europe, and the United States.

Mirka has been teaching in the Viniyoga methodology in the tradition of T. Krishnamacharya and TKV Desikachar since 1985 after receiving certification from her teacher Gary Kraftsow, and she has been practicing yoga therapy since 1988. She has helped hundreds of individuals develop and maintain a personal practice and manage challenging personal and therapeutic conditions.

Mirka co-founded the American Viniyoga Institute (AVI), LLC with Gary Kraftsow in 1999.  Her vision to train and support Yoga teachers has been fundamental to the growth and development of AVI.  She has a unique ability to develop quality Yoga teachers and support them in their personal and professional growth.  Mirka has worked closely with faculty assistants and students to support their understanding, integration, and application of the teachings in their personal and professional lives.

Mirka is gifted with both the capacity and the passion to creatively communicate and work in private consultation, both in person and on the telephone, and her work has enriched the experience of students of many yoga modalities all around the world. In group classes, she uses her extensive background to integrate body awareness and imagery with the Viniyoga principles. Mirka’s own experience and intuition strongly influence her teachings, as do tradition, creativity, innovation, and evolution.

She has consulted on several successful Yoga studies nationwide, and developed material with Gary Kraftsow for his two books “Yoga for Wellness” and “Yoga for Transformation.”

She currently lives in Sebastopol, California and is available for private sessions. She leads retreats, seminars, and workshops in the USA and Italy.
