Fear Less with Dean Sluyter

May 11 - 12
with Dean Sluyter at Westlake

Yoga Yoga is pleased to welcome back meditation teacher Dean Sluyter for 2 special workshops offering teachings from his new book Fear Less a follow up to his award winning Natural Meditation. These classes are open and accessible to all.

Friday, May 11
6:00pm - 9:00pm
Cutting through Anxiety with Silence and Voice

Whether anxiety is provoked by health or financial concerns, family or relationship problems, the crazy political scene, or anything else, the feeling is all too familiar. When anxiety becomes chronic, it’s emotionally exhausting — it sucks the joy out of life. Fortunately, there are time-tested approaches for undercutting anxiety. In this evening program, we’ll focus on two of these approaches: the effortless, deep silence of natural meditation, and some simple vocal resonance techniques. Anyone can do them. You’ll learn how to practice them on your own, at the beginning or end of your day, as well as inconspicuous ways to apply them in the midst of activity. In this life, problems are inevitable, situations must be dealt with, but anxiety about them doesn’t help us deal — and it really can be dropped.

Cost: $35 ($40 after March 11)

Saturday, May 12
1:00pm - 5:00pm
Fear Less - Living Beyond Fear, Anxiety, Anger, and Addiction

These days there’s so much fear in the air, you can almost taste it—along with all the varieties of anxiety, anger, and addiction that grow out of it. How can you navigate your way through the fear and confusion, and find your way to peace? In this workshop, acclaimed teacher and award-winning author Dean Sluyter will how you how to use simple meditative techniques and subtle tweaks of body, mind, and breath to open your life to deep, relaxed confidence. Drawing on both traditional enlightenment teachings and contemporary research, he’ll lay out practical steps for addressing such issues as:

• letting go of compulsive overthinking
• easing anxiety-induced insomnia
• loosening the bonds of addiction (including smartphone addiction)
• overcoming the fear of death
• finding your fearless voice
• finding meditative stillness in the thick of activity
• finding compassion for those in the same boat—which turns out to be everyone.

Cost: $85 ($95 after March 11)

Both classes:  $108 ($125 after March 11)

About Dean Sluyter

Dean Sluyter (pronounced “slighter”) has taught meditation for over 40 years, from corporate headquarters to maximum security prisons. He is the author of five books, including Fear Less and Natural Meditation, winner of the Nautilus Gold Award for the year’s best book on mind-body-spirit practices. “Om meets Wheeeeeee! Sluyter careens merrily from the Buddha to Willie Nelson, from prison stories to The Wizard of Oz, but it all leads us—step by practical, loving step—toward a life of peace. Who knew that learning how not to be freaked out could be so much fun?”
—Michael Kane, author of Heal Your Broken Heart
