A Weekend With Phoenix Rising Yoga Founder Michael Lee

YOGA THERAPY, THE BUDDHA, AND NEUROSCIENCE

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 8, 6:30PM - 9:00PM

In this introductory workshop you will learn about body-mind approaches to yoga therapy that can support you and your clients attain and maintain a more meaningful life as an adjunct to traditional yoga and meditation practices congruent with and supported by modern medical and psychotherapeutic approaches. Michael will highlight aspects of ancient yoga as well as the teachings of the Buddha, and show how they relate to recent neuroscience research and some recent developments in psychology practice.  These approaches have relevance to and are being successfully engaged with various populations including cancer patients, trauma survivors, and veterans, as well as in marriage and relationship counselling.

The evening will combine lecture and experience and will set the scene for the weekend workshops to follow which will offer more experiential and skill development in these areas.

This session will give you the tools and you will be guided through experiences to learn how to use Embodied Awareness to support you in your life. You will also learn how over that last several years there is now a significant increase in neuroscience research that supports many of these practices. You will get clear examples and insights into how modern psychology interfaces with ancient wisdom and learn how to practically apply this to your own life as well as those you serve in your work.

This session will give you an experience of yoga that is directed towards the use of your body as a tool for acceptance and awareness in relation to choices we make in life.  In this way it makes your yoga practice a potential source of wisdom from which to run your life.  Care to engage and listen to your body and find out?

You will learn how to apply concepts from modern neuroscience and psychology that you can add and include to your regular yoga or meditation practice.  These tools that Michael has developed over 30 years of teaching and personal practice, will help bring your practice to a new level. It will then serve you in engaging life with greater clarity, authenticity, passion, and effectiveness and you will see immediate benefits on a daily basis.  You will also learn an integration tool so that almost everyone and everything around you can become a source of learning and wisdom.  You will understand the distinction between knowledge and wisdom.  Many of us have the knowledge behind what we would like to create but lack the 'how to apply it to life' tools that transport knowledge into true wisdom.  This workshop will give you those tools and if engaged will help you create the life you are meant to be living.

Michael Lee, MA, Dip.Soc.Sci, Dip.T., C-IAYT, E-RYT 500 
Michael is a master educator with 49 years of teaching experience. He founded Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy in 1985 after many years of deep yoga practice and work in the areas of personal growth and transformation. Michael is the author of two books Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy—Bridge from Body to Soul and Turn Stress Into Bliss. He is also a contributing author to the American Psychological Association published book Beyond Talk therapy: Using movement and expressive techniques in clinical practice. This June Michael was a keynote speaker at SYTAR for the International Association of Yoga Therapists. He has led workshops and training programs and presented at conferences worldwide for the past thirty years.

Phoenix Rising Therapy is a holistic healing art. Using age old yogic and modern therapeutic approaches to deepen awareness and presence, we are able to help others accept themselves more fully. Out of this acceptance they are more easily moved to embrace the opportunity for change, growth and enhanced well-being in body, mind, emotions and spirit.
