The practice of Yoga and Astrology (Jyotish) has been linked together for hundreds of years. In this column we will look at the month ahead astrologically and see what we can learn about our yoga practices, life choices, and how to align and connect ourselves to the cosmic cycles.
This monthly column uses the science of Vedic Astrology (which differs from Western astrology in reckoning the sign position of the planets) as it gives the best results for people on a yogic or spiritual journey. The highlights below reflect the Vedic Astrology sign positions for this month.

This month:
Sun in Aquarius: February 14 to March 14
Aquarius is ruled by the planet Saturn. The Sun in Aquarius is influenced by the attributes of Saturn.
The Aquarius Sun Person
If you were born between February 14 to March 14, you are a Aquarius Sun according to Vedic Astrology. People with the Sun in Aquarius are intelligent communicators and make excellent writers. They are dependable, fast learners and do whatever is necessary to get their jobs finished properly. They experience ups and downs in career and their financial position. Often they find in their jobs that they have to listen to people that are not nearly as capable as they are. Their minds are always active and can come up with good ideas for other people's benefit, gaining respect and love. Usually they are taught spiritual or philosophical concepts often through the challenges they meet in life.
The Aquarian Yogi
The Aquarius Sun Yogi is idealistic, friendly, humble, and inventive. They enjoy an unusual approach to yoga practice that allows for self-discovery, sharing, and group relationships. You may often find an Aquarian yogi in a teacher training program where they enjoy the community of the training as much as the yoga. Sometimes they may exhibit eccentric behavior or their free spirit in their yoga practice. Yoga is never weird enough for them!
Spiritual Love
For most of this month Venus is in Sagittarius, the sign of dharma and purposeful approach. This can make us socially outgoing and warm as well as an ability to express our emotions more frankly and openly. Life partnerships will focus on the deeper meaning behind the relationship and a grounding in the spiritual side. A great time to begin a yoga practice with someone you love!
Mars Meets Sun
On February 7th the Sun comes into conjunction with Mars in Capricorn. Mars has been strong the last several weeks and the arrival of the Sun brings its fiery and transformational energy to a peak. A "soul" breakthrough can come about through a passionate application of willpower and warrior passion. The energy can almost feel overbearing so depending upon where Capricorn is in our chart, use this wisely. For example, Sagittarius ascendants can speak with such authority and strength that only a whisper may be needed. Aries ascendants have all the power at work and anyone born with a Capricorn Sun has no problem in making their presence felt, for good or otherwise.
Moonlight in Leo
The Moon is full on the 18th this month in the sign of Leo and in the nakshatra of Magha. People will feel like partying with a dramatic flair. Even more activity than usual for a full moon. A good time for almost anything except for lending money (better to spend it!) or dealing with new technologies (put away your new IPhone 4). Above all, you do not want to waste this day with what the ancient texts term "servile, mundane or common activities." Have fun!
