Yoga at Work Student Feature

Meet April. April is a Communications consultant for the Texas Association of School Boards. She has been taking yoga classes at work with Yoga Yoga since 2007.

Yoga Yoga:
What do you like about having yoga at work?

April:
Yoga at work is convenient. You might be too lazy to drive from your home to a yoga studio, but it's not at all hard to convince yourself to leave your desk for an hour.

Yoga Yoga:
What benefits do you receive by doing yoga?

April:
I work out six days a week and tend to skip the stretching... click here to read the rest of April's interview.

Taking a Minute for Yoga
Yoga Yoga recently participated in a national research project on the benefits and practice of yoga. We discovered the number one reason people gave for not doing yoga: not enough time! It can be difficult to fit in a full yoga practice into a busy work day.

Try to remember that even a quick stretch in between meetings or while waiting for a document to print can go a long way to relieving stress and tension. Try this easy yoga posture the next time you're at your desk or waiting for copies!

Supported Downward Dog
Start standing upright, grounding through your feet, activating the legs, and hands placed on a flat surface, like a desk.
On your inhale, feel your spine lengthen upward as your chest and ribs expand.
On your exhale, engage your abdominal muscles as you walk your feet back, coming into a 90 degree angle.
Keep your feet hip width apart, and directly under your hips.
Stay here and breathe four breaths, feeling the stretch all through your back.
