Yoga
@ Your Desk
One
of the greatest things about yoga is that you can bring it out of
the class into your everyday life. Once you learn the basic poses,
you can practice at home. You can take it into the office or even
into traffic.
Just five minutes of yoga can add a renewed sense of energy to your
day.

Taking
a Minute for Yoga: Wrist Opener
Before
you start make sure you have enough space to extend your arms
out in front of you.
Sitting
straight up in your chair, press your sitting bones down into
the chair, and lengthen your back. Place your hands on your
knees. Slide your shoulder blades down your back. Close your
eyes or focus your eyes softly forward. Take a moment and
focus on your breath.
Bring
your hands together and interlace your fingers together. From
here, straighten your elbows and turn your palms out
Feel
the gentle stretch opening your wrists. Take as much time
as you need here. Softly focus on breathing and enjoying the
time you made for your yoga.

Yoga's 10th Birthday
On
January 12 1998, Yoga Yoga opened its first studio at 1700 South
Lamar. Founders Michael (Mehtab) Benton and his wife Laura (Guru
Karam) had been teaching out of a studio in their home and followed
a heartfelt calling to make yoga available to as many people as
possible. Since then, their inspired vision blossomed into a thriving
business with four studios. Their intention remains the same.
Yoga
Yoga serves not only to teach classes, but to build community and
establish relationships with our students that last a lifetime.
Yoga's incredible ability to heal the body and mind has literally
transformed the lives of our students. Some of those students have
become teachers through our nationally recognized teacher training
program.
Yoga
Yoga's concern for the community also extends to our Yoga
Care Foundation which supports scientific research and
offers yoga to those ordinarily unable to practice this healing
and transformative exercise. Also, the Yoga
at Work program provides on site classes and workshops
to keep Austin's business community healthy both small and large.
We
are thrilled that 2008 marks our tenth anniversary and the doors
of Yoga open every morning with the same aspiration as on that very
first day - "May we be here today so we can serve those
who come tomorrow."
