Meet John Romano. He is a Development Manager for IBM. He is currently taking a weekly Yoga at Work class in the evenings.

Yoga Yoga:
What do you like about having yoga at work?

John:
It is very easy and convenient to get to. In 10 minutes I can leave my desk, get on my exercise clothes and get to the class. An added bonus is that there is no traffic to fight.

Yoga Yoga:
What benefits do you receive by doing yoga?

John:
Being in a stressful occupation (software development) requires me to find outlets for relieving stress. Yoga is now another activity I can add to my arsenal to get the needed balance in my life...

FREE Yoga at Barton Springs
Saturdays in May, 10-11:30 AM

Save Our Springs Alliance and Yoga Yoga have teamed up to bring Austin free, outdoor yoga classes at Barton Springs on Saturdays in May from 10-11:30AM.

All ages and abilities are welcome. Please wear comfortable clothing and bring your yoga mat and sun screen. The classes will be held just outside the south entrance to Barton Springs on Robert E Lee, under the pecan trees.

Taking a Minute for Yoga

It can be difficult to fit in a full yoga practice into a busy work day. Try to remember that even a quick stretch in between meetings or while waiting for a document to print can go a long way to relieving stress and tension. Try this easy yoga posture the next time you're at your desk or waiting for copies!

Standing Twist

Start standing upright, grounding through your feet, activating the muscles around your leg bones.
Place your hands on a shelf or copier, about shoulder height.
On your inhale, feel your spine lengthen upward as your chest and ribs expand.
On your exhale, engage your belly muscles as you twist to your left, keeping you feet grounded, and your left arm out to the side, reaching through your fingers.
Return to the starting position on your next inhale.
Repeat other side.
