Birth Stories by Yoga Yoga students

Reed's birth story by Rachael
Born on May 3, 2009

I announced many times in the last few weeks in Prenatal Yoga class that should my baby want to come early (even though he was only 36 weeks), that I was totally fine with that. Turns out you should be careful what you ask for!

Sunday morning, May 3, my husband and I woke up early to go to breakfast with his father. For the first time in weeks I woke up with no pain and realized I had only woken up once during the night. We had a lot to do that day and I was quite grateful that I had all that extra sleep. About 8:30 as I'm drying my hair in the bathroom - my water broke.

Mama Mantras by Jess G

Take it in Stride

Things come up, they just do. You may have thought today would be the perfect day to start that scrapbook, or run some errands, or meet up with a friend. However, Providence, and your little one, had different ideas. Derailments of perfectly laid out plans come in the forms of weather, leaky bodies, leaky pipes, fevers, and other people, just to name a very few. The best is when the hits just keep on coming. What do you do? You take it in stride and try to laugh. At least when it's over.

A Letter from Lisa T,
Yoga Yoga's Prenatal Yoga Program Coordinator

Namaste Yoga Mamas,

Lisa T, Yoga Yoga teacherI am now entering the last few weeks of my pregnancy. In two weeks I will begin my maternity leave and my last Prenatal Yoga class will be on June 11.

I am grateful to be the sacred vessel to my baby. There are not many opportunities to experience this kind of powerful transformation in our lifetime.

I encourage you to be empowered by your own journey and birth experience no matter what challenges come your way. Remember this is your journey, make decisions that work for mamma, baby and family.

At times, doubt and fear may creep in. Throughout my pregnancy I have found that a few minutes of conscious breathing and repetition of positive affirmations assist in bringing me back to my true self, the present moment, the place of wisdom. It is in this place of wisdom where decisions can be made based on insight from within.

An affirmation is a positive thought that you consciously introduce into your thinking. This will allow your thoughts to support you. Close your eyes, come into your breath and repeat your affirmation aloud or silently as many times as you need to.

Below are a few of my favorites, (taken from the book Mind Over Labor by Carl Jones). Be sure to share these with your partner who is experiencing transformation as well.

For Mothers:
"I am able to birth in harmony with nature, in the best possible way for myself and my baby."

"My baby and I are working harmoniously together. We are grateful for this powerful experience."

"The strength of my contractions is an expression of my feminine power."

"The power of birth strengthens me, my child, and my partner."
For Partners:
"I see my partner as a strong and capable woman."

"I am able to support my partner during pregnancy and birth."

"We are working harmoniously together. We are grateful for this powerful experience."

"The power of birth strengthens me, my child, and my partner."

It has been such an honor and joy to be teaching and surrounded by such incredible women!

Remember, you are already a Birthing Goddess!

Om Shanti Shanti,
Lisa T

"I really appreciated the partner-bonding exercises and I think it gave my husband a lot of good information for how to be supportive at the birth, in addition to coping exercises for me. ...I loved her "prizefighter" analogy! I will definitely carry that with me.

Summer Spa Special: Aloe-Rose Scrub, Wrap and Massage

Aloe Vera
We've created a very special treatment to help you stay calm and cool even during the Austin summer. Introducing the Aloe-Rose Scrub, Wrap and Massage!

Your treatment will begin with an herbal geranium body scrub. The geranium soothes and cools and the scrub will gently exfoliate dead skin cells, leaving you soft and smooth.

After a refreshing shower, relax in a Rose-Aloe wrap. The Aloe Vera is hydrating, literally plumping the skin cells! While you’re lightly wrapped in a sheet, rest your head: you’ll receive Marma Therapy1 on the face and a soothing scalp massage to calm the mind.

For the rest of your body, enjoy a full massage (this can be customized for pregnancy).
This 90 minute massage is valued at $135. For a limited time, enjoy the Summer Spa Treatment for $119! Click here for your discount coupon!
