Gratitude for those who have Mothered us
by Ravyn A

You don't have to be an expert to practice meditation. As a mother, whether you are pregnant or have a new baby, taking just a few moments in any day to connect (to your self and/or your growing baby) is a beautiful and healthy practice.

Bring to mind a person in your life now or in the past who has been motherly to you. A person who has been a guide to you, or a protector, or a tender teacher, or a loving support. Feel love and gratitude for that person and the effect they had on your life. Let this feeling of gratitude fill you completely and as you envision this mothering person, let your love fill him or her completely.

Annabelle's birth story by Kelly

My birth story is a long one - 72 hours, to be exact! Friday night at 12:20 AM my water broke in bed...

... It was the most intense experience of my entire life and I will never forget how empowered and warrior-like I felt. I am a birthing goddess and I feel my Prenatal Yoga teacher, Alice, instilled that in me. I couldn't have done it without her and all the women in class in my subconscious, believing in me...

Aiden's Birth Story by Heather

My baby boy was a couple days later than my due date, but when he decided he was ready, he came in a hurry!

I went to the doctor on Wednesday, and we were told that she thought that I would go into labor that night... click here to read the rest!

Call in the Kula!

When I was in the ninth grade, I was put in the position of director for my drama class play. I always liked behind the scenes better than acting on stage, so I was thrilled. It was a tricky play with several different characters and scenes that carried the same theme but were independent of each other.

I was really having a tough time coming up with a way to stage the scenes for a sensible flow. Some of the older students watched a rehearsal one afternoon, and were full of suggestions. After listening and taking some notes, I quietly left and cried my eyes out. Obviously, what I was doing wasn't working! Even worse, I didn't feel I could use any of the suggestions because they didn't come from me. It wouldn't be my play anymore.

Later, with my teacher's encouragement, I melded some of the ideas into something we all liked. That year I won Most Promising Thespian for my work on that play, even though I never felt it was anything I did.

Fast forward seventeen years...

Wide-Legged Forward Bend

The benefits of this pose for the pregnant body are many! A very simple asana, it stretches the pelvic floor as well as the hips and back of the legs. Done with support, it can also be very calming and help you connect to your center and your baby.

Postnatal Asana Sequence

This month's postnatal asana is actually a sequence of movements that can be very useful to your body after delivery. As you alternately move and stretch in this sequence, you will gently stretch your lower back and the front of your hips, your neck, and your calves.

You will also be adding flowing strength and circulation to your upper back and shoulders that can undo knots which may be building as you learn how to comfortably carry your baby.
