In the healing system of Ayurveda, there are three doshas,
or bodily constitutions, in each of us--Kapha, Pitta, and
Vata. While most of have one or two predominant doshas,
the balance of all three can change according to season
and lifestyle.
The
goal of Ayurveda is to bring the body into a state of harmony
where it can heal and become whole again by pacifying whichever
dosha is currently out of balance. To learn more about the
doshas, read Craig's article below.
As
we move from the end of winter into spring, we are in the
cold and damp Kapha season, and it's important to bring the
body back into balance by adopting a Kapha balancing routine.
This means inviting more activity into our lifestyles and
enjoying the Texas sunshine to stimulate and rejuvenate the
body processes, rather than falling into sluggishness. To
keep Kapha in balance, try avoiding sugar and dairy in your
diet, and add some light spice to your foods. Start your day
with a cinnamon or ginger tea (try brewing our Yogi Tea at
home!) and drink lukewarm water throughout the day to help
flush out toxins.

Enjoy
our Vedic Sea Wrap
... for 10% off!
Kapha
season, when it's cold and damp outside, is the perfect
time to detox and stimulate the body-even when we just want
to curl up and stay in bed.
An
easy way to release toxins from the body is our Vedic Sea
Wrap--a detoxifying delight for the body and senses. Even
if you're not planning a detox this spring, the wrap can
strengthen the immune system by releasing toxins so that
your body can focus on fighting any allergies and colds
that may come your way.
The wrap begins with a full body drybrush: the therapist
uses different strokes to exfoliate dead skin cells and
to stimulate the circulatory and lymph systems. After this
gentle exfoliation, the therapist covers you with a body
masque of green and white seaweed-both high in mineral content
and excellent for detoxifying the body-and wraps you in
several layers of sheets and blankets. As the seaweed absorbs
into the skin, it actually stimulates the metabolism on
a cellular level and flushes toxins. While you rest in your
seaweed wrap, your therapist sends you into a deep meditative
state through marma point therapy and relaxing scalp massage.
After your wrap and a refreshing shower, you receive full
body massage using dosha-balancing oils.
During your wrap, you'll float between consciousness and
sleep, in that space of complete relaxation that you may
have only found in your yoga classes. In this blissful
state, the body and mind can release tension completely
and have the opportunity to heal on deeper levels.

The
Doshas
by Craig Williams, LAc, clinical
herbalist AHG, Ayuvedic Practitioner, Veda Kovid
According
to Ayurveda there are three primary life-forces in the body
and mind called "doshas" in Sanskrit. The life-forces
or doshas are responsible for all physiological and psychological
functions in the body and are the causative factors in the
disease process. The term dosha means "that which spoils,
darkens or causes decay" and is derived from the Sanskrit
root "dush" which means "to spoil."
However the doshas are not to be viewed solely in a pejorative
sense, as they also serve to create the body and support
the body's natural process.
What is being adumbrated by the term dosha is the idea that
the human body and mind is finite and will eventually fade.
Yet if we know how to keep the doshas functioning smoothly
and in balance, we can harmonize the body and mind to the
great cosmic forces of light and life enabling life to be
full of health and vitality thereby allowing one to reach
their greatest spiritual potential.

Blended
Algae Bath Powder
For
a purifying and revitalizing treat, try a bath with our
Blended Algae Powder. A seaweed bath flushes toxins from
the body by stimulating the metabolism, and minerals in
the seaweed can help relieve water retention. You will restore
vitality to the skin by increasing the production of collagen
and elastin, and antioxidants in the seaweed will help protect
the skin from free radicals. As the skin is remineralized
by trace elements in the seaweed, the cells are nourished
and your body can come back into balance.

A
great practice for stimulating the body and reducing Kapha
is dry brushing in the morning. It will invigorate and increase
circulation as well as wake up the nervous system while calming
and balancing it.
Dry brushing is a gentle exfoliation that will leave the skin
soft and smooth; follow it with your favorite body oil to
deeply moisturize and protect the skin. It's quick and easy:
just brush toward the heart! For exfoliation, use a clockwise,
circular motion and for stimulating circulation, use a brisk
upward stroke.
If you've never practiced dry brush, treat yourself to the
Vedic Sea Wrap to experience it with a therapist; afterwards
you can keep the brush after your wrap to use at home!
