Ardha Chandrasana - Half Moon Pose

Benefits: strengthens the ankles and legs, improves balance, awareness and focus.

Setting up:
From triangle pose (Trikonasana), soften the right knee and bring the left hand to your hip.
Bring the right hand to a block (or thick book) about a foot in front of the right foot with the fingertips on the block.
Begin to straighten the right leg while simultaneously kicking up the left leg.
Open the hips, stacking the left hip on top of the right hip.
Bring the left leg straight and parallel to the floor, flexing the left foot with the toes facing forward.
When you feel balanced on the right leg, reach the left arm up towards the ceiling, opening the chest and making a straight line with the right and left arms, stacking the shoulders one on top of each other.
If you feeling grounded and stable, bring the gaze up towards the left fingertips. Breathe
Repeat on left side.
Variations: Do the pose near a wall and bring the left foot to the wall when you kick up the left leg. Repeat on opposite side.

A Meditation for Happiness: Smiling Buddha Kriya -
from Bountiful Beautiful Blissful, Gurmukh Khalsa

Sit in Easy Pose and curl the ring and pinkie fingers in, pressing them down with your thumb while keeping your first two fingers straight.
Bring your arms up so that your elbows are pushed back and a 35 degree angle is made btw the upper arm and forearm, keeping the forearms parallel to each other. Palms face forward.
Close your eyes and concentrate on the Third Eye point very powerfully.
Chant mentally, "Sa-Ta-Na-Ma." The sound "Sa" express the infinite; "Ta" expresses life; "Na" expresses diminishing; "ma" expresses light and regeneration.
Begin gradually with 3 minutes and working up to 11 minutes. Then inhale deeply, exhale, open and close your fists a few times, and then relax. You will be smiling!

Rand's Birth Story by Staci Gray
Born on September 5th, 2007

Our story begins with a trip to the airport. Tuesday, September 4th (my husband's birthday) at 11:30am, I'm heading to the airport to pick up my mother when I have my first contraction. Ok, not bad, I'd been having little teasing ones for two weeks but this one was different, more of the rise and fall that you hear about. The "funny" thing is that by this time this baby was 11 days late and I was scheduled for induction (ICK) the next day because my uterus was starting to run low on fluid. I had a doctor's appointment that day at 2:30 where they confirmed that I was indeed having contractions.

At the time I was 1 to 2 cm dilated and about 50% effaced. Contractions continued all day long getting slowly stronger and closer together. My mom, husband and I went to get some Mexican food for dinner and came home to get everything ready for the hospital and then we waited for the magic time when it was time to go. Part 1
by Ryka George CD(DONA), PCD(DONA)

Pregnancy is a time of excitement, wonder, anxiety and joy. The months following this discovery are filled with plans, appointments, and celebrations. Then one day, the big moment arrives and your baby is born. And then what really happens?

After Birth, the Unspoken Journey will be a series of articles about what impacts your postpartum experience, and what really goes on after your baby comes home. I will share with you some ideas on how you can make the best choices for yourself, your baby and your family. These articles will cover the many aspects of what happens physically, emotionally and socially to moms and their loved ones after they give birth.

My hope is that you enjoy this series and begin to prepare for your postpartum needs so your experience can be a joyous and nurturing one. I also hope that we as women begin to dialogue about what it is really like to experience the first weeks of life with a new child. Together through support and community, we can begin to change this journey for the better. Click here to read on.

Summer Greenlees, LMT, RYT began studying with Donna Fahri in 2003 and completed Donna's teacher training emphasizing movement repatterning in 2006. Summer's prior apprenticeship in Hatha, prenatal and postnatal yoga with Shannon Potts from 1994-'97 was formative in preparing her for a path in women's yoga and bodywork.

Summer's bodywork for the child-bearing years and experience as a labor support specialist informs her yoga for pregnancy, birth and motherhood. In Summer's classes you'll be invited to be loyal to your own perceptions and feel support for your unfolding inner guidance, while exploring the freedom, integration and enjoyment that yoga offers. Summer is also a Certified Infant Massage Instructor, a Certified Star Doula and a Perinatal Massage Specialist.
