Balasana
- Child's Pose
a
posture of surrender, relaxation and rejuvenation

Setting
up:
1. Kneeling on the floor, seperate the knees wider than the hips and
draw the toes together.
2.
Exhale and lay your torso and belly between your thighs. Broaden your
scrum across the back of your pelvis and narrow your hip points toward
the navel allowing them to nestle down onto your inner thighs. Lengthen
your tailbone away from the back of the pelvis while lifting the base
of the skull away from the back of you neck.
3.
Lay your hands on the floor alongside your torso with the palms up allowing
the fronts of your shoulders to release to the floor.
4.
Soften the facial muscles and the teeth in the back of the jaw. Bring
the forehead to the earth. Consciously relax the pelvic floor. Bring
your awareness to your breath and baby and begin to breathe deeply and
slowly visualizing the breath moving gently up and down the spine in
the back of the torso.
5.
Balasana is a resting pose. In Yoga, Balasana is often sequenced betwee
more challenging postures. Stay anywhere from 30 seconds to a few minutes.
6.
Breathe, smile, connect enjoy
Variations:
For
a more restorative posture, try placing a blanket or block beneath the
forhead and bring your awareness the the Third eye or the space between
the brow point. Also try a blanket or bolster beneath the belly or hips/sitbones
for extra gentle support.
For
a more active posture, extend the arms forward with palms down. Straighten
the arms allowing the elbows to lift off the earth. Feel the tops of
the shoulders rolling down.
During
labor and childbirth,
you may choose to come into this posture between constractions.

Sharing
Birth Stories
Embrace the birth you are given by connecting with other women.
Women have traditionally turned to other women for advice and sustenance
during pregnancy for years. It is a way to feel oneness with all mothers
who have ever given birth. This knowing can provide strength and help
to break through limitations a laboring mother may place on herself.
There is a profound sense of connection with women and with the entire
community of mothers. It is often suggested to look to our mother's,
grandmother's and even great-grandmother's birth stories. These "Wise
Women" birthing stories can provide tremendous inspiration, encouragement
and even humor.
We
invite you to share your birth story with us. Remember all birth stories
are welcomed and embraced. Below are some helpful questions when beginning
to write.
1. What helped you most when you gave birth?
2.
What was your spiritual experience of giving birth?
3.
If you could do it over again, what would you do the same?
4.
What if anything, would you have done differently?
We
invite you to share your Birth Story with us!

Postnatal
Yoga: Yoga for the 4th Trimester with Summer
Saturday,
Nov 17 3:00 pm - 5:30 pm Yoga Yoga Northwest
In the Fourth Trimester, the Mother is recovering from pregnancy and birth,
and her body and mind are in a transitioning stage, eventually returning
to pre-pregnancy physiology. The relationship between mother and baby
which has been developing on the inside over the last 9 months now changes
to a relationship on the outside, including family and siblings. Family
bonding during this time is a central focus, as well as Mom and baby's
health and healing. Both Parents of babies from the age of 2-3 weeks old
to crawling (pre-crawlers please) are warmly invited to attend. We will
practice gentle yoga and partner yoga and learn the yoga of Infant Massage,
a powerful, and enjoyable bonding tool. Please bring a few baby blankets,
and a small bottle of massage oil that is unscented and food grade, (olive
oil is recommended, and easy to access).

Part
3
by Ryka George CD(DONA), PCD(DONA)
Everyone
is excited when a new baby is coming home. Grandparents, friends and family
want to see the new arrival but what do families with new babies really
need?
Here
are three areas that can help you prepare for the arrival of your new
child.
Setting
reasonable expectations regarding family and friends visiting after your
baby is born.
Recognizing
that the social needs of mothers and fathers are different and balancing
these very different needs can be challenging.
Beginning
to establish friendships with other parents of babies and toddlers before
you give birth.
When
you welcome your baby home you will benefit most from visitors who will
call first and stay less than an hour, unless they are people who are
there to help. It would be best if your visitors understand that you need
time to rest, fall in love with your new arrival, and have the privacy
to discover and receive what you need. Also, those people who are likely
to be the most help to you are people who you do not feel judged by, who
will allow you as a new parent to discover your own way of doing things
unless you ask for help or advice.

Meditation
for Infinite Connection
Come to sit in Easy Pose, bring your arms forward and cup your hands
together with the pinkie fingers touching, six inches in front of your
heart center.
Allow your spine to lengthen as you sit.
Gently lower your eyes and softly focus them in front of you, and feel
the supreme energy coming down from the heavens and merging with the
flow of life inside you.
Continue for three minutes, inhaling and exhaling through your nose,
or as long as you are comfortable, and end with a deep inhale and exhale.
Relax
