Trikonasana
(Triangle Pose)
Trikonasana is a standing posture that helps to strengthen and stretch
the legs while engaging the abdominal area and creating space and circulation
through the upper body. Trikonasana can relieve anxiety, upper back pain,
balancing issues, leg cramps and the fog of pregnancy!
How
to practice:
- Relax the body, root down through the soles of the feet
- From the belly, the legs lengthen down and the spine lengthens out the
crown of the head
- From the heart center, the arms extend and elongate equally
- Feel the heart open and spaciousness
- Breathe and enjoy

Hollis
Christopher's Birth Story by Jennifer Nesbit
Born on Jan. 31, 2007 @ 4:43am; weighing 8.7 lbs and measuring 21.5 inches
long
Every
woman has an image of how their birth will present itself, yet during
pregnancy I was on a mission to be fully prepared for the amazing journey
of Hollis reintroducing my husband and I to the world. For ten months
I read, meditated, went to birthing classes, and squatted 'til my heart
was content. My curious personality kept me vigilantly researching the
various possible ways labor could unravel. In an effort to not become
obsessive I kept my focus on the eight limbs of yoga and later found out
that I was given the gift of breath during my own birth . When 42 weeks
came upon us the midwife told us we would probably go 43 weeks because
Hollis was quite comfortable. My husband and I concluded that our labor
was a slow journey and we vowed to be patient.
On
January 30 at 8:30pm my water broke with a vengeance and within a half
of an hour I was in transition. Let the breathing begin! Like the waves
of a turbulent ocean the surges came and went. I inhaled for strength,
I exhaled to unfold for the next 7 hours, unexpectedly having to push
for 4 of them, until our little gift came into the world. Chris' smile
and encouragement helped me focus while Mary Ceallaigh, our Doula spirited
me away on a yogic journey with her kind words and song. Hollis and his
Dad's heartbeat became one that night in the birthing room exuding strength
and wisdom for my new found role in life--Motherhood.

Selena
Pang
"Happy
mom = happy baby. Do the best to take care of yourself so you can take good
care of your baby. Don't feel guilty taking the time for yourself to get
on the mat and take care of that achey back or shoulder, make sure you feed
yourself well, try to carve out a little time for yourself and do something
that makes your soul sing." - Selena
Selena
has been practicing yoga since before 1995, and is continually amazed
at the elegance and accessibility of the technology of yoga as a tool
in dealing with life's journey. Selena is inspired by the Ashtanga tradition
and enjoys sharing her love for the practice with others. She loves to
work with perinatal women to share the amazing benefits of yoga during
this special time in a woman's life. She is a registered Yoga Alliance
teacher at the 200-hr level and is additionally trained in pre- and postnatal
yoga. On her free time, Selena can be found rock climbing local crags
in the Austin area.

The
essence of yoga is the breath.
The essence of childbirth is relaxation
Follow the breath to relaxation.
The breath is the constant companion.
The breath breathes the mom's body
And baby's body.
The breath becomes a way of flowing
And becoming presence.
Using the breath to cultivate conscious relaxation.
There is not breath not worth breathing.
