Practicing
yoga while pregnant has proven health benefits for any mother-to-be. But
did you know prenatal yoga benefits your unborn child as well? Each time
you move through a yoga session, your baby will feel what you do. The
sense of well-being you encounter -- both physical and mental -- is experienced
by your baby as well. In the long run, this promotes a more peaceful childbirth,
as well as a child who is more peaceful as well.

Oliver's
Birth Story
by Joanna Halinski
Born at 7:16am on January 8, 2007 (his due date), weighing 7lbs14oz &
measuring 20 & ½ inches
I
truly owe thanks to the wonderful prenatal yoga instructors and the practice
of yoga for giving me 100% strength and focus during this birth; a birth
that I am very proud to share. My midwife has attended approximately 1000
births and she shared with me that the birth of Oliver Evans is in her
top ten. She described it as very primordial. Each time she checked on
me, I was squatting in a different dark place, silent, breathing, internal.
When I crawled into the soothing birth tub, I was able to relax and work
in a different way. It was dawn when I felt a powerful feeling with the
rise of the sun. I used each contraction to gently push. Around 6:30am
I examined myself and felt Oliver’s head. At 7:16am I birthed Oliver
Evans into his Daddy's hands. Oliver’s soul brother (the placenta)
detached Saturday morning. Oliver has been glowing since, completing his
journey into this place.
We
invite you to share your Birth Story with us. Email Lisa Taggart at lisat@yogayoga.com

Mary
Ceallaigh
“You and your baby are one, just being present to that fact is YOGA,
24/7. Postures, simply an additional way to integrate that truth. If this
is a new approach for you, start by lovingly tuning in, with your intuitive
ear, to your own heartbeat, and the double time heartbeat of the baby
in sync with that. Your breath is a profound yoga.” Mary (Guru Partap)
Mary
(Guru Partap) loves practicing and teaching general Kundalini Yoga, as
well as specializing in Preconception & Conscious Pregnancy Yoga.
An Intuitive Doula with a degree in Human Development, Mary attended her
first yoga class in California in 1988. After self-study Hatha using Deepak
Chopra's books, she further focused on Prenatal Yoga and Shakti principle
studies with Jeannine Parvati from 1995 on. All of Guru Partap's classes
facilitate the principle that human beings, like Lotuses, are Born to
Bloom - and Intuition is the teacher for each student's inner journey.

Ayurveda
for Women
"Ayurveda, India’s “Science of Life”, is particularly
ideal for healing and empowering the female body, mind and spirit."
– Ayurveda for Women, Robert Svoboda
Ayurvedically,
it is recommended for pregnant women to nourish themselves through diet,
rest, exercise and massage.
•
Diet: foods should be tasty, moist and nourishing
• Rest: To encourage a restful night, it is encouraged to retire
to bed within the 4 hours immediately following sunset.
• Massage: Receiving a regular prenatal massage with a little oil.
(Almond and olive oils tend to be most agreeable.)
• Exercise: Taking walks in nature, being in the outdoors, breathing
fresh air.
To
learn more about the Indian science of Ayurveda come study with Dr. Robert
Svoboda on
March 23 - 25. Click here
to read more.
